During our last safari to the Masai Mara, these lion cubs were always our first sighting of the day, and usually our last. The four of them (from two litters), plus their two mothers, had taken up residence in a seasonal river bed very close to our luxury mobile tented camp.
Lions usually feed at night, and cubs are at their most playful at dawn. Our aim every morning was therefore to find this family while they were still feeding on some unfortunate wildebeest, watch them wrestle and play, and then follow them across the plains to their resting place for the day - thus knowing where to find them again in the evening.
Then it was on for coffee and breakfast, and whatever else the Mara had to offer, which was always A LOT!
