Since the popularisation of the “safari” in the 1960’s, many wildlife areas have became overcrowded with curious visitors, and large hotels have been built to look after them. These are not the sorts of areas and accommodations we like to frequent. Away from “mass tourism” Africa can still boast vast areas of outstanding wildlife, scenery and culture, and small lodges built for the discerning visitor looking for more than just a hotel. Many of these lodges are located in National Parks and Reserves, but increasingly these are being built in wilderness areas and on wildlife-friendly ranches, where your experience is guaranteed to be private, and we have the freedom to explore the wilds liberated from the park constraints - walking, horse-riding, canoeing or night game-driving through land as yet untouched by western influence. When selecting lodges for our safaris we apply the same philosophy that makes our tented camps so special. They must be small, private and personal, and they must offer more than just accommodation. We are not looking for gold taps and chandeliers, but quality and experience. Tim guides private safaris using these small luxury lodges throughout eastern or southern Africa. Alternatively, if you are keen to experience a Luxury Mobile Camp, this can be used in conjunction with these wonderful lodges to create a safari that offers contrasting accommodation experiences. Travel between lodges can be either by road or by private aircraft, both of which offer you a fascinating look at Africa outside the wildlife areas. |
