THE KENYA COAST

Secluded beaches...

A wonderful addition to a safari is three or four days spent on the coast. With uninterrupted fine white sandy beaches, lined with palms on one side and the turquoise Indian Ocean on the other, Kenya’s beaches are some of the best in the world. Ideal for swimming, the beaches are protected from the main ocean by a ribbon of coral reef, ensuring calm crystal clear waters that rise and fall gently with the tides. The lagoon coral offers excellent and easy snorkelling, while diving beyond the reef is also rewarding. Further out to sea still, the Kenya coast is also famous for its big game fishing.

The reef protected waters close to the beach combined with the steady trade winds make the coast ideal for windsurfing and kite surfing, and this steady breeze keeps you cool even in the heat of the day. Away from the beach, the bird life is truly spectacular, and the various historic ruins left from 1000 years of shifting power, means that the coast offers something for everyone.

While some of Kenya’s beaches are overrun with “package tourism”, we steer clear of these areas, concentrating instead on small boutique hotels in beautiful and secluded areas.
